Keeping Solid Waste Costs Manageable

Beginning February 1, 2025, trash customers will notice a slight adjustment to the cost of service. The City of Pelham is one of seven cities that make up the Cahaba Solid Waste Disposal Authority, which contracts with Amwaste for solid waste collection services. The company’s contract with the Authority includes an annual increase of up to 5%, and this year Amwaste was granted a 4.6% increase.

To limit the impact on residents, the City of Pelham is only passing 2.5% of the increase along to customers. This adjustment equates to 64 cents per month and is tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures changes in the cost of goods and services over time. The new residential monthly base rate, effective February 1, 2025, is $26.08.
